FORT WORTH, Texas (October 25, 2010) - For the second consecutive year, Renfro Foods has taken home the prestigious Scovie Award, the world's leading recognition for hot and spicy products.

Mrs. Renfro's Ghost Pepper Salsa, which debuted this past summer, took third place honors in the Processed Salsa-Hot category at the 2011 Scovie Awards. Ghost Pepper, also known as Bhut Jolokia, has been certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's hottest chile pepper. Last year, Renfro Foods' new Pineapple Salsa placed first the Processed Salsa-Fruit category.

"Once again it is truly exciting to see one of our newest specialty salsas recognized at this highest level," says Renfro Foods president Doug Renfro. "Heat continues to be a trend factor in consumers' tastes and it brings our company great pleasure and satisfaction to create products that are delicious, healthy and affordable all at the same time.

The Scovie Awards is the industry's most rigorous blind tastings, where a panel of the country's top culinary experts sampled hundreds of the world's most lauded gourmet foods from 32 states, countries and provinces.

The Scovie Awards were created by Dave DeWitt, a leading author on fiery cuisine and founder of the National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show. Named for Wilbur Scoville who pioneered a rating scale for spicy foods, the Scovie Awards have become the industry standard for excellence in more than 60 categories of fiery foods.
